About the Role
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Sr. Chemist – Raw Materials for the Ferro Alloys Unit (FAU). The candidate will be responsible for conducting and monitoring physical and chemical quality testing of raw materials, finished goods, slag, and process outputs used within Ferro Alloys manufacturing operations.
The ideal candidate should possess strong knowledge of laboratory testing procedures, chemical analysis, quality assurance systems, and reporting practices within the Ferro Alloys or Steel Manufacturing Industry. The role also involves managing laboratory operations, sample collection activities, equipment maintenance, and quality documentation to ensure efficient and accurate testing processes.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Testing & Analysis
- Conduct and supervise physical and chemical testing of raw materials used in Ferro Alloys furnaces.
- Perform quality analysis of slag and output materials from Sinter, Briquette, and Jigging units.
- Ensure testing activities are carried out using appropriate laboratory equipment and as per departmental SOPs and quality standards.
- Prepare, maintain, and submit quality testing reports and related documentation to management.
- Ensure accurate reporting and recording of testing results in internal systems and ERP/SAP platforms.
- Prepare daily finished goods quality reports and share the same with relevant stakeholders for operational decision-making.
- Conduct additional quality tests as directed by management.
Sample Collection & Laboratory Operations
- Manage and supervise the sample collection team for incoming raw materials and production outputs.
- Ensure proper handling, labelling, storage, and testing of samples.
- Monitor accurate grade labelling of finished goods and coordinate appropriate allocation for dispatch requirements.
- Ensure smooth execution of laboratory activities across all shifts.
Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Management
- Ensure proper maintenance, calibration, and operational readiness of laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Monitor inventory levels of chemicals, reagents, and laboratory consumables.
- Raise maintenance requests for lab equipment and purchase requisitions for required chemicals and materials.
- Coordinate with maintenance and purchase teams to ensure uninterrupted laboratory operations.
Reporting & Documentation
- Oversee shift-wise data entry, testing records, and documentation of quality activities.
- Prepare and submit daily quality reports and manpower utilization reports.
- Maintain proper records of testing activities, reports, and compliance documentation.
- Coordinate with production, stores, purchase, and operations teams for effective workflow management.
Safety & Compliance
- Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures, quality standards, and regulatory compliance within laboratory operations.
- Ensure all laboratory personnel follow SOPs and plant safety guidelines at all times.
- Support emergency response and compliance-related activities as per company procedures.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 3+ years of experience in Ferro Alloys / Steel Manufacturing Industry.
- Strong knowledge of raw material testing, chemical analysis, and laboratory quality systems.
- Experience in handling quality lab operations and testing procedures.
- Knowledge of quality documentation, reporting systems, and ERP/SAP operations.
- Proficiency in MS Office, especially MS Excel.
- Strong analytical, communication, and team coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a manufacturing and shift-based environment.
- Candidates from Chhattisgarh or nearby regions will be preferred.
